Throughout history flowers have been valued for their healing properties. For many years, Australian Aborigines have used flowers to heal physical injuries as well as emotional imbalances; flower essences were also commonly used in India, Asia, Europe, and Ancient Egypt.

Seventy years ago, Dr. Edward Bach, who specialised in English flowering plants, began to re-popularise this method of healing. Australian herbalist and Naturopath, Ian White, further developed this system, and devoted many years to travelling Australia, where his studies led him to develop 65 specific Bush Flowers Essences. These particular essences are believed to heighten a person’s intuition, bring forth positive qualities, and finally enable individuals to follow their goals in life more effectively.

Ian White - Bush Flowers Originator

A respected practitioner and teacher of naturopathy and kinesiology, Ian White grew up in the Australian Bush. For five generations, his family, natural health practitioners specialised in herbal medicine, have come to understand the beneficial and crucial effects of Bush Flowers. Ian White began to explore this knowledge for himself from an early age.

Unique Benefits of Australian Bush Flowers

Nowadays, practitioners and prescribers all over the world are incorporating Bush Flowers Essences into their therapy. One of the reasons to why these particular essences are held to be one of the most effective available is that Australia has the oldest and highest number of flowering plants in the world, and because the land is relatively unpolluted.

The effects of bush flowers in therapy are similar to those achieved through meditation. A person is enabled to access their Higher Self, negative beliefs are released, and the subconscious mind gradually begins to adopt positive virtues. Therefore the treatment works by primarily restoring emotional balance. And since it is believed that emotional imbalance contributes to physical ailments, after treatment using Bush Flowers Essences, the body begins to cure itself.

Examples of Bush Flower Essences

Each flower is thought to have its own distinct healing property and energy. For example, the flower Jacaranda is used to treat people who never complete what they have started, who are constantly changing their goals and aims. In place of these negative qualities the essence of the Jacaranda helps such people to become more decisive, focused, and sharp. The flower Kangaroo Paw is used to treat people who are socially inept and tend to be insensitive. The effects of this flower gradually cure these people by making them more aware of the people around them, and less self-centred. The Sydney Rose, pink in colour, helps cure people who feel isolated, morbid, and insecure. The flower replaces these negative qualities, by encouraging the awareness that everyone is part of a greater whole, and that peace can be found within.

Other Bush Flower Products

Other products include the Flower Insight Cards which were first developed after popular demand in 1997. These cards contain beautiful photographs of different flowers, reflecting the vibrancy and essence of each of them. Each card also contains the healing quality of the particular- what ancient healers called the Doctrine of Signatures.

Flower insight Cards are particularly useful for people who are not sure what essence to choose, and they can also be incorporated into a Tarot reading.

Australian Bush Flower Essence Creams are also available as a healing and nourishing treatment. They consist of a combination of botanicals, herbal extracts and aromatic oils, and can be even be used on very sensitive skin. They are also very rich in antioxidants and can be applied all over the body.

Research into California Flowers was first developed in the 1970s by Richard Katz and Patricia Kaminsky. They were both practitioners of Bach Flower Remedies, and used the principles of this treatment to develop twelve flower essences. These twelve essences are believed to treat emotional problems, and regenerate the patient’s life force. They focus on self-esteem issues, boosting creativity and self-realisation, also encouraging spiritual growth. There is also a range dedicated to the development of sexuality and increase of loving relationships. The flower remedies are directed toward the new-age patient as they were designed to deal with stressors specific to the current social climate.

California Flowers Description

California Flowers Essences are herbal infusions or decoctions that are made from the flowering part of a plant. First formulated in the 1930s by the British physician, Edward Bach, flower remedies are believed to treat emotional problems that lead to poor physical health. This method of treatment identifies a life energy within the biological system of the body that corresponds to emotions, sensitivities and energy. Flower essences are designed to balance this life force within the patient to create overall well-being. Usually California Flowers Essences are taken orally in liquid form around four times a day, although dosage can vary from patient to patient.

California Flowers Biography

Patricia Kaminski and Richard Katz (married and professional partners) began their careers in flower essences by working extensively with Bach Remedies. After 1978, Richard Katz began developing flower remedies based on North American plants (California Flowers), and the couple began co-directing the Flower Essence Society in 1980. The Society was designed to inspire further research and publication of California Flowers treatment methods. Kaminski is known for her facilitation of California Flowers remedies to treat learning disabilities such as dyslexia in children, and then in a counselling program for juvenile offenders. The pair now live in Nevada City, California, where they manage a wildlife sanctuary that cultivates California Flowers Essences.

California Flowers Society

The Flower Essence Society (FES) was founded in 1979 by Richard Katz, where he was joined by his co-director, Patricia Kaminski, in 1980. It is dedicated to the continued research, practise and dissemination of California Flowers essence therapies throughout the world. In 1982, the FES was incorporated into the non-profit organisation Earth Spirit. The Society is aimed at promoting plants research, and therapeutic research on the effects of flower essence treatment, as well as training practitioners in California Flowers essence therapy. It is also responsible for the publication of many books about California Flowers essences, and provides a communication network for all practitioners worldwide. California Flowers essences and related products can be purchased through the Flower Essence Services Web-store.

California Flowers Example Essences

The California Flowers essences are particular to North America - distinct from the Bach Flower Remedies developed in the United Kingdom. Some examples are:
California Pitcher Plant - believed to increase vitality and healthy instincts.
California Wild Rose - believed to increase love of the earth and of life, and increase general enthusiasm.
Cayenne Capsicum - credited with making the patient more energetic and capable of change or transformation.
Deerbrush Ceanothus - increases clarity of purpose, so that the motives and intention of the patient are aligned with their true feelings.
Filaree - believed to create a world- or universe-perspective for the patient, and allow distance from current stress.
Iris - believed to inspire artistry and creativity.
Mallow - creates trust in social process and heightens the patient’s ability to share.
Pink Monkeyflower - believed to increase the patient’s ability to take emotional risks, and combat feelings of guilt.
Quince - believed to align the spheres of masculine and feminine within the patient and reconcile tenderness with responsibility.
Scotch Broom - intended to increase positivity about future events, thus overcoming pessimism and despair.

Hyperventilation and linking the inhalation and exhalation breaths during meditation and psychotherapy are such techniques. It is believed that these different forms of breathing are essential in reaching alternate states of consciousness.

Breathwork is thought to play a very important role in reducing stress, and in battling insomnia and depression. Moreover, sustained Breathwork techniques have been found to have psychological, spiritual, physical and emotional benefits.

Both breathing ebooks have a money back guarantee. Read about other people’s testimonials and see how the breathing techniques have helped them.

Breathwork Origins

Breathwork is a term that can refer to yogic Pranayama, Tibetan Tantric Tummo, and Buddhist Anapanasati; spiritual practises that have contributed to the modern Western therapies. However, modern breath-orientated therapies are also said to have been influenced by psychotherapy, and the human potential movement. In addition, there is the work of two practitioners, Leonard Orr and Stanislav Groff, which has had a major impact on modern techniques of Breathwork.

Rebirthing Breathwork

Rebirthing Breathwork stemmed out of Leonard Orr’s work, and the term was first used by Orr to describe the subject in his book, Rebirthing in the New Age. During various experiments with breathing techniques, Orr discovered that the practise of particular procedures triggered the resurfacing of memories of birth. Furthermore, he also came to understand that by reliving these memories through connected breathing, he was healing the trauma of birth.

Therefore Rebirthing came to refer to the technique that reverses the traumatic effect of human birth. Rebirthing-Breathwork practitioners believe that the trauma suffered by a child in labour has a profound, unconscious effect on that child’s psyche, perception and experience of life. For example, if a child has been delivered with the help of forceps he/she may be in the habit of relying on other people to get out of destructive situations. The premise behind this notion is the belief that in addition to cerebral memory, a human being also possesses cellular memory, which is the memory distributed and contained amongst the body’s cells, tissues and organs.

Practitioners also believe that Breathwork is important because human breathing does not supply enough oxygen to the body, and consequently tensions accumulate, and are suppressed. This is the cause, they state, of all physical and mental illnesses, which may easily be cured or prevented by the practise of Rebirthing Breathwork techniques which work by detoxifying the body and simultaneously releasing such tensions.

Holotropic Breathwork

Another breathing technique similar to Rebirthing is Holotropic Breathwork, a psychotherapeutic approach to healing, developed by Stanislav and Christina Grof. Holotropic Breathwork allows the individual to access several states of consciousness, with the aim of heightening self-exploration in order to help the person facilitate his/her psyche’s natural capacity for healing.

This practise is derived from modern consciousness research as well as Eastern spiritual practises. It is a technique that involves five elements: evocative music, group process, intensified breathing (so-called hyperventilation), focused body work, and expressive drawing. It is typically practised in groups.

General Breathwork Examples

The most basic Breathwork technique is easy to learn yet has a major impact in reducing stress and anxiety. The individual, sitting or standing simply relaxes his/her shoulders and head, and breathes deeply and slowly in through the nose. After holding his/her breath for a moment, the individual slowly releases the breath through the mouth. This is repeated at least three times, and works by heightening the individual’s awareness and calming the mind.

Alternate Nostril Breathing, used in the practise of yoga, is another breathing technique. It is a method that is believed to stimulate both parts of the brain simultaneously, in order to create tranquillity and balance in the body. The individual here, places his/her thumb on his/her right nostril and breathes in deeply from the other while counting to four. The breath is held for a while and then released through the right nostril while the individual counts to eight. The same process is repeated using the other nostril, and the cycle is practised three times.

Bio Resonance Therapy detects and treats the body’s energy system by correcting energy disturbances through use of a machine.

Under BioResonance Therapy, a BioResonance device is used to regulate a person’s electromagnetic oscillations; natural oscillations are strengthened while pathological oscillations are cancelled. The result is a restoration of a person’s health. Operation of the BioResonance Device is done by a trained practitioner.

BioResonance Therapy has been used successfully in Germany for 25 years, where it was developed. It has been extensively tested and approved and is used in 55 countries world wide including Europe and Canada.

BioResonance Therapy Description

To understand how the device works, imagine striking a tuning fork in a room containing a piano - the fork would cause the corresponding note on the piano to resonate and make noise. The machine works in the same way, most practitioners can tune it to the exact frequencies that resonate within a healthy body. If the body does not immediately respond and resonate to a particular frequency the therapist will leave the frequency running until resonance starts. Resonance is indicative of a frequency working well with the body’s energy. The aim is for the body to be brought to a state in which all the frequencies are resonating well.

The belief that supports BioResonant Therapy is that the electrical poles of cells, tissues, organs and other systems in the body, are significant, and that they contribute to the overall health of the body.

A BioResonance Therapy device is like an external electromagnet that modulates the electromagnetic signals within a person, allowing the the adjustment of electromagnetic balance, and the correction of internal functions.

BioResonance Therapy Treatment

A typical BioResonance Therapy session begins with 10 minutes of initialization and is followed by a 5 minute full body scan. For the next 45 minutes the practitioner will deliver a series of BioResonance patterns through to the client, monitoring the results. Before the patient leaves the therapy, a post-therapy analysis of their bio-field is taken, which is compared with the body scan taken at the beginning of the session.

Some BioResonance Therapy devices can create a remedy based on the client’s required needs. The frequencies that have been determined as beneficial to the client are transmitted to a homeopathic carrier substance. The client can then ingest this substance at regular intervals over subsequent weeks.

Bio Resonance Therapy is considered to be an extremely safe treatment. This is because the treatment is non-invasive. No artificial energy is introduced into the body. The BioResonance Device acts on the body’s existing energy system, drawing out suppressed functions by helping them to resonate with the machine.

Bio Resonance Therapy Benefits

BioResonance Therapy is claimed to restore healthy energetic patterns to the internal organs of the body, as well as to remove all negative patterns from the body’s energetic field. The aim is for the restoration of healthy energy flow within the body’s energy systems, resulting in improved vitality and optimal wellness.

It is thought that BioResonance Therapy is highly suitable for treating patients with drug addiction, including nicotine addiction. The therapy is viewed as a painless, affordable method of breaking the cigarette habit, without side-effects. The therapy is thought to eliminate the root cause the addiction stopping the cravings, and thus breaking ‘the habit’ of smoking. It also accelerates the body’s natural detox processes, allowing for nicotine to be purged from the body.

The is a long list of diseases that have been treated by Bio Resonance Therapy. This list includes: allergies, weakness of the immune system, toxification, slow healing wounds or ulcers, gynaecological or urinogenital disorders, cardio-vascular and digestive diseases, sleeping disorders including insomnia, and more others.

Calmbirth is the name given to a number of different hypnobirthing methods, designed to help train mothers for childbirth. Calmbirthing is both a philosophy and a physical technique; it is aimed to teach a mother and her birthing companion to relax in order to experience a drug-free, natural birth in a more comfortable manner. Calmbirth has been credited with making childbirth virtually painless without the aid of medication. It is based on the belief that when the mind and body are in harmony, birth becomes to the natural process it is for other living creatures, with reduced need for medical intervention and a less traumatic entry to the world for the child.

Bruce Newman Calmbirth

Robert Bruce Newman developed the Calmbirth method in the 1990s, and has since presented more than 90 hospital and conference training seminars on it. Many of these sessions were held at universities in the United States of America, and he has taught at the University of Colorado, Naropa University, and the City University of New York. The method is based upon philosophical modes of relaxation and spirituality that he learnt during more than 20 years of training with Tibetan meditation teachers and doctors. Newman has written many books about the Calmbirth method, and also texts on general relaxation and calm healing.

Bruce Newman Calmbirth Description

The Bruce Newman Calmbirth method is based on mind-body medicine and meditation science. The training sessions were started in 1998 in Southern Oregon hospitals, and are now used widely throughout the world. The Calmbirth prenatal classes are focused largely on the innate abilities of mothers that are often overlooked in modern medicine. Women are encouraged to use natural childbirth, without the aid of drugs or surgery, as a primary option, but if medical intervention is necessary, the Calmbirth method can still be implemented to make the birth less traumatic for the child, and help heal the after-effects. The classes are focused on teaching mothers to breathe in a certain way in order to reconcile the relationship between the physical body and they body’s natural energy. This is believed to help reduce anxiety, manage pain, heal the nervous system, and enhance the immune system, as well as aid the child’s reaction to its birth.

The aim is to help these couples access their natural inner resources to help deal with the anxiety, fear and tension that can accompany the birth of a child. It employs the practical skills of relaxation, breathing techniques and visualisation to create a calm environment for the baby to be born into, and focuses on the body of the mother as an instrument involved in a natural process, rather than resisting this exercise with drugs. It also stresses the relationship between the mother and her child through the birth in creating a bond that will then affect the baby’s future.

Calmbirth Benefits

The Calmbirth method is believed to reduce the anxiety and tension surrounding childbirth in both the mother and the child. It supports birth as a natural process, and therefore reduces the need for medical intervention that are believed to increase negative feelings toward the birth and brings biological enrichment. The mother is believed to communicate with the child through the combined energies of their bodies, and thus the child feeds from their mother’s relaxation through the birth. Meditation is also believed to increase pain tolerance and produce endorphins that can also decrease the likelihood of post-natal depression.

The Canine Touch was developed by Dr Ivana Ruddock, and applies techniques similar to those of the Equine Touch, which involved humans and horses. The Canine Touch, however, uses principles and procedures that have been developed to take into account the bio-mechanical differences between the species. It is a hand-on technique, designed to optimise the function of soft tissue, balance the nervous system and positively affect the body’s energy to facilitate both good emotional health and good physical health.

Equine Touch and VHT

The Equine Touch treatment was developed in 1997 by Jock Ruddock, who was the pioneer of the Vibromuscular Harmonisation Technique (VHT) and a trained practitioner of Bowen Therapy. This therapy was originally based on the human physique and was then transposed onto horses, but later Ruddock studied equines as an individual species and catered specifically to its unique mechanics. Equine Care is non-diagnostic and non-invasive. It addresses soft tissue, fascia and muscle on a holistic level through a series of choreographed vibrational movement. This is designed to allow a horse to gain ideal homoeostasis at all levels.

Ivana Ruddock

Dr. Ivana Ruddock is a qualified veterinary surgeon who married Jock Ruddock, the developer of the Equine Touch therapy, after attending foundational studies in the course. After learning the Equine Touch, Ivana went on to learn the human VHT, and also to join her husband in teaching his treatment throughout the world. Since 2000, Ruddock has taken a personal interest in setting up a system like that of her husband’s for canines. The research she undertook culminated in her founding the Canine Touch therapy, which looks at the canine muscular system as distinct from other quadrupeds. It takes into consideration the anatomy, genetic behaviour and soft tissue peculiarities that are unique to the dog.

Canine Touch Description

Canine Touch is aimed at encouraging the relaxation of the dog, which is believed to decrease stress. By lessening the canine’s stress levels, many hormones that are important to healing are triggered to be released into the nervous system. The treatment itself is holistic, and addresses the dog as a system rather than focusing on any particular problem areas. It also takes into consideration the emotional well-being of the canine as an individual, as this is believed to alter from breed to breed. It uses body balancing procedures to encourage an general canine wellness.

Canine Touch is intended to assist a dog on both a cellular and over-arching level. The techniques promote homoeostasis in the canine, which in turn allows its innate healing ability to function at peak levels. The treatment is believed to release tight muscles and reduce pain. It is also credited with improving blood and lymphatic circulation, which are important for the maintenance of the immune system and encourage system detoxification.

Canine Touch Benefits

The Canine Touch is designed to treat a number of symptoms that dogs display to show discomfort. This can include: signs of aggression, signs of fear, uneven strides or trouble walking, unresponsiveness to commands, signs of stiffness after activity, more movement in one side of the body than the other, trouble sitting squarely on the ground.

Practitioners believe any one of these signs, or a combination of them all, can be eased by the Canine Touch massage treatment. They are believed to be particularly beneficial after an injury, or if the dog has had digestive problems.

The treatment is credited with reducing muscle tension, relaxing muscular spasms, improving energy levels in the canine, increasing the dog’s range of motion, making the coat more vibrant, removing toxins, and improving circulation. Good blood circulation promotes excellent over-all health, as it increases the immune system. This treatment is particularly recommended for show dogs as either a warm up or a cool down after competitions.

Chi Nei Tsang translates to ‘working the energy of internal organs’ or ‘internal organ transformation’, and applies the principles of Kung-Fu and Tai-Chi-Chuan in one integrated system of healing massage. It originated in Taoist monasteries millennia ago. Used by monks to detoxify, refine and strengthen their bodies so that they could maintain the high energy levels needed in order to perform at the highest spiritual plane.

The Five Elements

Traditional Chinese philosophy and medicine can be classified under Five Elements, or Five Stages. These elements are wood, water, metal, fire, and earth. These are based on an observed network between organs in the body that were mapped out by Chinese doctors, with some elements corresponding to a particular organ. Fire is said to be the heart; wood, the liver; water, the kidneys. Metal is sometimes substituted for Space, and is said to be the element that accommodates everything effortlessly. The interaction of these Five Elements, their balance and working together in harmony, is credited with helping maintain general good health.

The Navel

The navel, a credited Taoist practice, is a place in the body where the energy of the organs, glands, brain and nervous system converge. Therefore, blockages are easily manifested in this area as symptoms that show up in other parts of the body. The navel is also considered to be important in the process of foetal growth. Taoist practice teaches that not only do we take in our food from the umbilical cord, but we also eliminate waste through it, the cellular memory of which apparently sets the navel up as a major site for waste collection. Chi Nei Tsang dictates that by working on a series of points around the navel it is possible to unwind tension and release blockages of energy.

Chi Nei Tsang Treatment

Chi Nei Tsang sessions range from an hour and a half to an hour in length. They involve the practitioner touching the patient’s abdomen in precise places and guiding the patient’s breathing to the areas with which they are working. This is intended to result in relaxation and a connection with the self on an emotional and physical level. Patients are advised to wear comfortable, loose clothing and to eat and drink normally before their appointments.

Chi Nei Tsang Benefits

Chi Nei Tsang is credited with four major benefits for the patient. It detoxifies the body, helping relieve the body of excess stagnation and stimulating the lymphatic and circulatory systems. This helps strengthen the immune system and resist diseases. Chi Nei Tsang also helps strengthen internal organs and visceral structures through stimulation and correcting imbalance. It has been known to be helpful with chronic joint pain and problems related to misalignment of feet, legs and pelvis. It is also believed to help patients on an emotional level. This is based on the philosophy that unprocessed emotional trauma is stored in the digestive system, which Chi Nei Tsang helps unfold and deal with through balancing the body’s energy. This treatment has sometimes been combined with psychotherapy. Along with this, Chi Nei Tsang is aimed at teaching patients to become more self-aware. The philosophical base of this treatment is rooted in the idea that each person is responsible for their own good health. Therefore, the breathing techniques and basic exercises are intended as fundamental self-help treatments to be used in combination with visualisation and meditation in a holistic health management system.

Biomesotherapy is therapy that involves the injection of a sterile saline solution under a person’s skin, stimulating organ systems through what is known as cutivisceral response. Oral homeopathic medicines focusing on the organ or tissue requiring treatment may also be given at the same time. The needles used for this therapy are very fine like acupuncture needles, and most people are surprised at the ease and quickness with which injections are given.

Biomesotherapy Saline Injections Theory

Biomesotherapy relies on the use of carefully calculated diluted substances called homeopathic potencies. Specific combinations of these medicines are used to heal particular conditions. The medicines contain small concentrations of substances, usually found in plants and minerals. Many of these plant and mineral products have been tested in standard double blind and drug monitoring studies. Biomesotherapy saline injections are unlike commonly used anti-inflammatory drugs which suppress the pain. Biomesotherapy saline injections actually encourage the process of inflammation, thus assisting the body’s natural healing process. It is thought that Biosotherapy Saline Injections promote the growth of new ligament and tendon tissue.

Biomesotherapy encourages the process of inflammation thus instituting the body’s healing mechanism.

Biomesotherapy Saline Injections Description

Biomesotherapy activates the body’s own capacity to heal itself. Often when an injury heals, it is incomplete and the blood supply to ligaments and tendons is poor. The deficient healing leaves the body with weakened connective tissue, which, in turn, leads to frequent repeated and recurring injuries and, in some cases, chronic pain. Biomesotherapy saline injections are made into the body to improve circulation at the point of the injury and increase the strength of the body’s natural regenerative processes.

Carefully chosen homeopathic formulations are combined with the saline injections so to hasten the process and assist with recovery. This is done through an inhaler, for the purpose of enhancing the effect of the saline injections. The specific medicine selected will depend on which organ or tissue is to be treated.

The needles used for Biomesotherapy saline injections are not like syringes, they are finer and look more like acupuncture needles. A special instrument such as an “inject-ease” device is typically used to make the injection. Less than a millilitre of sterile saline is injected beneath the skin, it is an exact replication of the body’s natural fluid makeup.

Who Can Biomesotherapy Saline Injections Help?

Biomesotherapy is especially effective in the treatment of acute and chronic pain. It has been successfully used as a treatment in Europe for over 10 years. People seek Biomesotherapy Saline Injections to achieve the following results: Increased circulation, Fine nerve endings stimulation, Muscle relaxation, Influence acupuncture points and meridians, Pain Alleviation.

The following conditions may be treated using Biomesotherapy Saline Injections: tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, chronic back problems, arthritis, headaches or migraines, acute musculoskeletal, wound healing, acute or chronic inflammation, cartilage erosion, tendon or ligament bruising, skeletal pain, softening and repairing scar tissue, inflammation of the sinus, irritable bowel syndrome, improving circulation, relaxing muscles.

Biomesotherapy Saline Injections Therapy

Pain relief can be experienced within minutes of a first treatment, but can take as long as half an hour. Sessions last approximately half an hour. Treatment is fashioned depending on the severity of the condition, this is usually once or twice weekly for the first two weeks, and less often, once weekly, fortnightly or monthly, as the healing process is facilitated and the condition is ameliorated. Some conditions may need further maintenance treatments to support continued wellness.

Every year in Europe there are over 70 million consultations of Biomesotherapy, which makes it one of the most popular forms of natural medicine.

Also known as Ear Coning, Ear Candling is a folk medicine practice that aims to remove wax and other harmful toxins from the ear.

Process of Ear Candling

The procedure followed is quite simple. The patient is first made to lie on his or her side with the treated ear on top. A cylindrical cone of waxed cloth is then placed into the ear. The ear and the adjoining areas are protected using an aluminium pie tin or a paper plate. This will collect any of the hot wax or ash falling from the candle. The candle is placed over this and the top end is lit.

Typically, one session of ear candling or ear coning lasts for about 45 minutes. At this time, the practitioner may use one or two candles per ear. Most patients describe the process as being ‘unusual, but very relaxing and calming’. After the candle is blown out, visible candle wax is gently removed using a cotton swab. Then ear oil is applied.

How Does Ear Candling Work?

According to proponents, the heat produced by the burning candle generates a vacuum within the ear canal. This helps pull out the toxins and dirt from the inner ear and the sinuses – areas that are usually inaccessible to unless surgery is performed. At the end of the session, patients get to see the debris from their ear. This consists of ear wax, toxins and candle ash. Proponents claim that the debris also contains fungus and other waste products within the ear.

The origins of ear candling are obscure, though proponents trace it to practices in ancient Egypt, Tibet and China. Enthusiasts of this technique firmly believe that ear candling helps:

- Relieves ear aches by cleansing the ear canals and regulating the pressure within the ears
- Helps cure and prevent further occurrence of sinusitis, tinnitus.
- Helps cure the auricular zone
- Relieve pain, strengthen the mind and purify the mind.

Ear Candling Beliefs

Most ear candles are made especially for this purpose using cotton or linen. The material is unbleached because practitioners believe that chlorine can damage the ear. This is then soaked in paraffin wax and thus allowed to harden. To give added benefits, sometimes the wax also contains herbs like Rosemary, Thyme, Chamomile, Jejoba, Yucca root and even honey.

But there are no scientific studies to back the claims of these proponents. Besides, ear candling sessions may be dangerous for people who have perforated ear drums or ear tubes. People who have artificial ear drums should also avoid this technique.

Skeptics totally disagree with the proponents and believe that the burning of the candle does not have the power to create any vacuum within the ear. The so called ‘toxins’ are largely the waste from the candle mixed with ear wax. The main reason they cite is that the ear canal is not connected to any of the structures beyond the eardrum. There is no scientific evidence of the eardrum being porous and thus enabling the passage of waste and toxins.

One of the proven benefits of ear candling is that it helps one to relax and relieve tension. Many people describe the sensation as being ‘near spiritual’ – almost like holding a shell over the ear and listening to it. Some people say that they hear a popping or crackling sound in the ear as the candle burns. Some amount of heat may also be felt during the sessions.

Who are Dietitians?

Most people have heard of dietitians as experts who tell them how to lose weight and what to ‘not eat’! Many people visit dietitians or nutritionists as a last-ditch effort in their fight against the mighty flab. A dietitian is much more than that. He or she is a diet expert who can give you the lowdown on the food you eat and its influence on your body. Dietitians have become more and more significant today because most people have forgotten the simple art of healthy eating. Since there is an increasing inclination to eat food straight out of a can or a wrapper, many of us don’t have a clue about what they are putting into their stomachs.

A qualified dietitian undertakes different job obligations depending on his capacity and training. Clinical dietitians play an important role in hospitals, working extensively with doctors on deciding treatment techniques and charting out a patient’s diet needs. Community dietitians work in public and home health agencies. Consultant dietitians have their own private practice through which they teach and advise on diet-related matters including proper nutrition, weight loss and food intake.

Dietitians are taught to fully understand the science of nutrition and separate the myths from facts. A qualified dietitian also knows his way around food products. While he many not be a gourmet chef, he will know enough about food products, their production and preparation. He can thus give you realistic advice that is custom-made to suit your individual lifestyle.

Nursing mothers, recuperating patients, growing children and pregnant women have certain dietary needs that are over and above the usual. A dietitian is qualified to give the right advice to such people. Even ordinary people can correct the faulty practices in their eating habits by consulting a dietitian.

The Need For Dietitians Today

Healthy eating patterns and a healthy lifestyle are the cornerstones of good health. Health problems do not usually begin from a single occurrence in life. They originate from a combination of things. Food is one of the most important factors that lead to health problems.

Find out how you can plan your diet with meal plans software and get your health up to scratch.

According to Employment News sources, the employment of dietitians is expected to grow ‘faster than average’ as a direct result of increasing emphasis on disease control and prevention through improved dietary habits. People today are more aware of the harmful side effects of medication. They are also slowly waking up to the fact that most of their ailments are caused by unhealthy food habits and wrong lifestyle choices. Thus more and more people are migrating towards holistic healing techniques.

Dietitians and Traditional Medicine

Holistic healing emphasizes that the body is in good health when there is a free flow of energy through the body. This flow gets blocked when there is an imbalance in the body, and this causes ‘dis-ease’. Many of the imbalances found in the human body are directly related to diet, stress and incorrect posture. It is significant to note that all forms of traditional medicine usually come with strict dietary restrictions. They emphasize the importance of a prudent lifestyle and good nutrition.

With the immense importance placed on food, exercise and diet by the media and society in general, an overwhelming amount of information is available through newspapers, internet and magazines. But all the information you find need not be accurate. A dietitian can help separate facts from fads.
